The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team’s bats were quieted by conference leading Morningside College in a doubleheader yesterday at McWhirter Field in Mitchell.  The Tigers scored two early, but were shut down the rest of the way in a 9-2 loss in game one, while the #14 Mustangs broke out late to pull away for a 5-1 win in the finale.  The losses drop DWU softball to 23-15 overall and 6-4 in the GPAC.  DWU freshman Savannah Ahumada drove in her team leading 36th run with a first-inning triple in game one and later scored on an RBI single from freshman Sierra Haage.  The Tigers were limited to just three hits the rest of the way as Morningside, 27-5 overall and 8-0 in the GPAC, built to its lead throughout.  Freshman pitcher Hallie Misiaszek took the loss in game one, allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits, while walking four and striking out two. Misiaszek is 8-4 this season.  The teams battled in a low-scoring game in the finale, as the score was tied at one through four innings.  DWU got its lone run in the third inning on a RBI single from freshman Karly Severance.  After taking a one-run lead in the fifth, Morningside got three insurance runs in the seventh to put the game away as DWU left nine runners on base in the loss.  Haage was charged with the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits, while walking two and striking out four.  She is 10-5 this season.  Morningside has won 14 games in a row.  The Tigers continue conference play against Hastings College at 1:00pm and 3:00pm Saturday at McWhirter Field in Mitchell.  Hastings is 23-13 overall but 0-6 in the GPAC.  Sunday the Tiger softball team will host Midland University at 1:00pm and 3:00pm and then the Tigers travel to Mount Marty to battle the Lancers in Yankton on Wednesday at 4:00pm and 6:00pm.
