Vandalism, stolen cars and vehicle burglaries keeping Police busy

Mitchell Police have a full plate of vandalism, stolen cars and vehicle burglaries and are asking for your help in finding who’s responsible.

Vandalisms

Sometime from Friday, March 4, 2016, at midnight until Monday, March 7, 2016 at 9:39 a.m., approx. $5,000 worth of property was vandalized at, and near Kiwanis Woodlot Park, located close to Indian Village Road by Lake Mitchell.  5 permanently mounted Professional Frisbee disc golf baskets in the park were vandalized.   It appears that a blue vehicle was driving in the fenced in park area and drove over the disc golf baskets intentionally.  Also, during this time period, a park bench that was mounted on a cement base by the Lake Mitchell Amphitheater was also vandalized.  The bench was moved from it’s original location and recovered in a wooded area just north of the amphitheater, by some burned wood.

Thefts From Vehicles

Sometime from Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 7:10 a.m. several vehicles were entered in several different locations in Mitchell and items were stolen from the vehicles.  A window on one of the vehicles that was entered was broken with a metal toy cap gun. Some of the stolen items include an Acer brand 17” lap top computer, one carton (10 packs) of Liggett ultra Light 100’s cigarettes, Apple IPad with black case (“164” is marked on back of the case), one set of Apple headphones with ear buds, one black and silver colored woman’s wallet (and contents)  and one gallon of Rotella T motor oil.   These items are valued at approx. $1,000.

2 Stolen Vehicles

Sometime from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 8 until 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday March 9, 2016, two vehicles were stolen in Mitchell city limits.  One vehicle, a black 2008 Chevy Malibu was stolen from the area of 212 S. Langdon sometime after 6:00 p.m.  This car was located in a field just west of 407th Avenue, and North of Scott Supply (west of Mitchell) at 6:50 a.m. It appears that this vehicle was travelling southbound prior to leaving the roadway on 407th Ave.

The second vehicle that was stolen was a Silver colored 1998 Buick Lesabre that parked curbside on the 1500 block of W. Hanson Avenue, prior to the theft.    This vehicle was recovered from the back yard of a residence located on the 500 block of E. 7th (by the North Alleyway).  It is believed that at least two people are involved in both of these vehicle thefts and that the suspects may have walked on the rail road tracks from the area of the stolen vehicle in the field west of Mitchell, to the 1500 block of W. Hanson Ave. where the second car was stolen.
