BMLGWhen you think of daredevils who throw caution to the wind, Martina McBride probably isn’t the first name that pops into your head. But the four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year has to confess — Reckless is more than just the title of her new album and its lead single.
“I think back to that girl that left Kansas knowing nobody in Nashville, and I came from a town of like 200 people. I grew up on a farm. I mean nobody around me did what I wanted to do, and I didn’t have any kind of role model or somebody to pattern myself after. My husband and I were newlyweds and we just picked up everything and moved to Nashville and just got started,” she recalls. “I look back on that, and at the time I didn’t feel like it was a reckless thing to do, but it really was, you know?”
One of Martina’s more recent “Reckless” moments came in the video for her latest release, when she decided to cut off a chunk of her signature raven mane while the cameras were rolling.
“You know the video is about peeling away layers and really getting to the heart of the matter and showing some hope and inspiration and just feeling reckless. So we thought it was just a good metaphor and I wanted to cut my hair anyway, so I was like, ‘Well let’s just do it in the video!'”
Martina’s thirteenth studio album, Reckless, is new in stores and online today.
