NBC/David LaChapelle We’ll get our first to chance to hear Blake Shelton’s new duet with his main squeeze, Gwen Stefani, next week on The Voice. It’s only fitting the two should debut their collaboration on the hit NBC show, since that’s where they met. The two wrote, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” at the end of last October, just before reps confirmed the two were dating.
Even though the two come from different musical worlds, Blake says their backgrounds are actually much the same. “As different as we are musically, we’re a fan of the same type of songs,” he tells People. “We have these playlists that we send each other that are stuff that we loved growing up and they’re so similar, so I think it made it easy for us to collaborate.”
It’s also a safe bet that the “Just Came Here to Forget” hitmaker may be battling a case of the nerves on Monday night.
“I’m intimidated by Gwen all the time. Any time I take a step back and think, ‘Wow, to me she’s Gwen, but she’s Gwen Stefani,’ you know what I mean? It’s like a self-check every now and then. Whoa, I’m hanging out with literally the coolest girl in the world and I get to hang out with her. Just having a meal with her sometimes, it’s like, ‘Whoa, that’s her sitting up there!’”
You can check out Blake and Gwen’s performance on The Voice Monday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The duet will be included on the Oklahoma native’s new album, If I’m Honest, which comes out May 20.
