It looks like Willie Nelson and Elvis Presley will adorn the Corn Palace for another year. That’s the word from Mayor Jerry Toomey. He told KORN News Radio while the murals will remain the same, the natural grasses will be replaced.
Toomey says the move should save the city around $60,000 and will be re-evaluated later.
The Mayor says murals stayed the same on several occasions in the past, including three years during World War Two and most recently in 2000-2001.
Toomey says Wade Strand, who grows the colored corn is aware of the plans. He says the timing will allow the Sixth Avenue Plaza construction to go on without interfering with changing the murals.
The Corn Palace has incurred an operating loss for years and the city is attempting to control the deficit.
