The third floor courtroom in the Davison County Courthouse was the site of a celebration Thursday as Leah Shields, Amy DeMaranville, and Thomas Engebretson graduated from the James Valley Drug and DUI Court.
South Dakota Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk offered his congratulations and encouragement.
Drug and DUI court is an intensive supervision program providing an alternative to incarceration. Each participant spent almost two years in the program before graduation. Shields celebrated 251 days continuous sobriety, DeMaranville 577 days and Engebretson 575 days.
May is National Drug Court month.
