Despite over an inch of rain throughout most of Saturday, the sun came out just in time for the annual Mitchell Memorial Weekend benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Hundreds of people gathered on the south end of Main Street to enjoy a children’s peddle pull, inflatables, a car show and shine, plus the centerpiece of the event, the annual barbeque competition.
Eighteen teams prepared their best rib and pork loin recipe for a team of sixteen judges. The Corn Palace Stampede took top honors in the loin category with Pheasant Country capturing first-place in ribs.
Two-Live Q won the Grand Champion trophy and Corn Palace Stampede, Reserve Grand Champion.
Pheasant Country also earned the People’s Choice Award for the fourth consecutive year.
Black Dynamite Barbeque was named best camp.
This is the first year cash prizes were awarded to the top barbeque teams. Most donated their money back to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
