"Summer" Lovin': Cassadee Pope Relives Her Beachside Romances

Big Machine Label GroupCassadee Pope gets personal on “Summer,” the follow-up to her number one duet with Chris Young.  It’s all about her love life growing up by the ocean in the Sunshine State.

“I wrote it from personal experience. I mean, there’s been those summer romances, growing up in Florida by the beach,” she tells ABC Radio. “And it’s just a song about reminiscing on those times and how those summer flings can be so passionate and powerful, but they can end as quickly as they begin.”

Picking out a leading man to relive those experiences with in the video for the song turned out to not be a bad gig at all.

“I shot the video in Clearwater, Florida. I’m from West Palm Beach, Florida, so it just felt right and fitting and very special. But when I wrote the song, I felt like this video has to be very vivid and it has to go along with the lyrics because they’re so colorful and they really tell the story specifically,” Cassadee explains.

“So I had a guy come in that we chose from casting that I thought fit the part very well, and we just spent the whole day running around town, um, being romantic.”  She laughs, “I’ll leave it at that!”

You can check out the video for “Summer” on YouTube now. It’s from Cassadee’s just-released four-song EP of the same title.
