DE SMET, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say the pilot of a small plane died and a passenger survived when the plane crashed into Lake Thompson in eastern South Dakota.
Officials with the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office tell says a call came in at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday about a plane crash at the lake. Authorities say there were two men in the plane. The pilot died on scene and his body was recovered by Codington County Search and Rescue.
The passenger was rescued by a boat that was on the lake and taken to a hospital in Lake Preston. Authorities say the passenger is doing well.
Lake Thompson is about 40 miles west of Brookings.
Names of the two men have not been released. No other information was immediately available.
