CMA/Image Group LASome Oklahoma athletes got quite a surprise during a recent practice, as Carrie Underwood showed up to give them $100,000. The money comes from a partnership between Carrie’s CALIA fitness brand and Dick’s Sporting Goods. In all, the two plan to donate half a million dollars to girls youth sports teams across the country, and it only seemed fitting to start in Carrie’s hometown of Checotah.
“Being active in youth sports while growing up helped set the foundation and passion for making fitness an important part of my life today,” the three-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year says. “Participating in sports also taught me important life lessons about dedication and teamwork.”
The money will be used to help the girls softball, track and field, basketball, cheerleading and golf programs in the Checotah School District.
