Nashville Notes for 6/20/2016

Burke/Triolo Productions/ThinkStockGarth Brooks is mourning the loss of his friend, musician Mike Chapman, who played bass on all of the country star’s studio albums. Chapman passed away in Nashville June 13 just days after being inducted into the Musician’s Hall of Fame as a member of Brooks’ The G-Men studio band. Brooks paid tribute to the musician during a June 17 concert in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Chapman will be heard on several songs Brooks has already recorded for an upcoming album.

To promote his first album of new material in eight years, ’90s country star Mark Chesnutt has launched a weekly video series titled Mark Chesnutt’s Honky Tony Monday on his YouTube channel, YouTube.com/MarkChesnuttTV. In the series, he shares memories about some of his favorite songs and fellow country artists. The newly posted third episode honors the late country legend Merle Haggard. Chesnutt’s album, Tradition Lives, hits retail July 8.

Country musicians Kristian Bush and Charlie Worsham will join a group of Nashville music industry executives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., June 23 to lobby for high-quality music education programs for all students.
