One person was killed and four others injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning south of Mitchell
The names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family members.
A 2011 GMC Sierra was eastbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve east of the intersection of 258th Street and 409th Avenue. The vehicle went into the south ditch.
One male passenger, 18, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger, 17, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The three other male passengers suffered minor injuries.
Charges are pending against the driver. It is unknown if any of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell EMS, Davison County Search and Rescue and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
