Authorities identify 18 year old killed in Saturday morning crash

An 18 year old man from Alexandria has been identified as the person killed in a one-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning south of Mitchell. Four others were injured. Dylan Mentele was a passenger. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A 2011 GMC Sierra was eastbound when the driver, 18 year old Tate Thompson of Ethan failed to negotiate a curve east of the intersection of 258th Street and 409th Avenue. The vehicle went into the south ditch.

 A 17 year old female passenger from Mitchell sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Thompson, the driver, and 18 year olds William Langstraat of Stickney and Justin Roster of Alexandria sustained minor Injuries.

Charges are pending against Thompson. It is unknown if any of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

 South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell EMS, Davison County Search and Rescue and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
