25 Years Later, Vince Gill Remembers Passing on the Opry's Initial Invitation

UMG NashvilleSaturday night in Nashville, Vince Gill celebrates a quarter-century as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Now he’s in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but as an aspiring artist, it was always his dream to step onto the Opry stage. But the first time he was invited, he had to pass.

At the time, his daughter Jenny was in first grade, and he was booked to accompany her as she sang “You Are My Sunshine” in her school talent show. So it only seems appropriate Jenny will join him on the Opry to mark his 25-year-anniversary. Wife Amy Grant and their daughter Corrina are on the bill as well.

Patty Loveless, Rodney Crowell, Vince’s band The Time Jumpers and Ashley Monroe also will play the Opry’s two Saturday night shows to honor their friend.
