BMLGAs Drake White’s debut album comes out today, lots of folks may not be familiar with the newcomer, save for his top-25 single, “Livin’ the Dream.” But that’s okay, because the Hokes Bluff, Alabama, native says he knows exactly who he is.
“When you think of Kenny Chesney, you think of a beach. And when you think of Zac Brown, you think of an eat-and-greet and beards and hats and classical guitars. When you think of Drake White and the Big Fire, I want folks to think of a campfire, sitting around and the camaraderie around that fire, because that’s where I first started learning to entertain people and play guitar,” he says.
Drake believes it’s an inviting idea — one you’ll find woven throughout his first record.
“You can light a good fire, sit around it in a good, comfortable chair, with a guitar picker and a good voice and a songwriter,” he says. “I don’t know many people that would turn that down or say, ‘Ah, that’s really not for me.’ It’s really where things take place for me, and it’s a magical spot. So, you know, the band’s called the Big Fire, the album’s called Spark.”
Spark is new in stores and online today. This weekend, Drake plays two shows with Zac Brown Band at Boston’s Fenway Park. Once he wraps his summer dates on the Black Out the Sun tour, he’ll head out with Dierks Bentley on the fall leg of his Somewhere on a Beach trek.
