A 10-year-old boy died Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash east of Platte about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Five other occupants were injured.
A 2000 Ford Ranger pickup was southbound on 376th Avenue and entered the intersection with South Dakota Highway 44. The vehicle collided with a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was eastbound on SD Highway 44.
The three occupants in the pickup were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. The 10 year old boy who died was in the pickup. The 14 year old male driver and an 11 year old female passenger received minor injuries.
The three occupants in the Jeep Grand Cherokee suffered minor injuries. A 4 year old male, 4, and a 2 year old female were in child seats. It’s unknown whether the 27 year old female driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Platte Fire and Rescue and Platte Ambulance also responded to the crash.
