More drug busts in Mitchell

On Wednesday August 24, 2016, Officers with Mitchell Police Division conducted a search of a residence located at 1109 S. Rowley Street in Mitchell.  As a result of the search, approx. 2 pounds of marijuana that was packaged in several small plastic bags weighing approx. 1 ounce each, apparent methamphetamine residue, apparent marijuana wax residue, marijuana infused gummy candy, one container of marijuana infused drink, several pill capsules containing an unidentified substance, a digital scale, a vacuum bag sealer, several plastic baggies, several items of drug paraphernalia and $2,495 in cash were found inside the residence.   Several video cameras that were mounted on the outside of the residence and inside the attached garage and related equipment were also seized.

 In addition, a second residence located at 408 S. Duff St. #B was also searched.  Apparent methamphetamine residue, apparent marijuana residue and drug paraphernalia were seized.

 As a result of this investigation, the residents of 1109 S. Rowley Street., 27-year-old Jared Jerome Nespor, date of birth 03-20-1989 and 27-year-old Mellissa Mae Schuppan, date of birth 12-30-1988, were arrested for the following offenses:

Possession of 1 to 10 pounds of marijuana in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-6, Possession of  more than 1  pound of marijuana with intent to distribute in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-7, and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute in a Drug Free Zone in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-19.

 In addition, Mellissa Schuppan was also arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-5 and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42A-3.

The residents of 408 S. Duff St. Apt. #B,  35 year old Skila Kay Schuppan, date of birth 06-15-1981 and 34 year oldMark Daniel Leach, date of birth 10-21-1981, were arrested for the following offenses:

– Possession of a Controlled Substance in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-5, Possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42-6  and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-42A-3.

-In addition, Leach was also arrested for Failure to Register as a Convicted Sex Offender, in violation of S.D.C.L. 22-24B-2 and For Residing In a Communtiy Safety Zone by a Convicted Sex Offender, in violationof S.D.C.L. 22-24B-23.

 Possession of 1 to 10 pounds of marijuana is a Class  4  Felony punishable by  10  years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and or a fine of $ 20,000.  Possession of  more than 1  pound of marijuana with intent to distribute is a class 3 Felony punishable by 15  years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and or a fine of $30,000.   Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute in a Drug Free  Zone is a Class 4  Felony punishable by  10  years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and or a fine of $ 20,000.  Possession of a Controlled Substance is a Class 5  Felony punishable by 5  years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and or a fine of $10,000.    Possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana is a Class 1 misdemeanor  punishable by 1 year imprisonment in a courty jail and/or a $2,000 fine.   Possession of Drug Paraphernalia is a Class 2 misdemeanor  punishable by 30 days imprisonment in a courty jail and/or a $500 fine.  Failure to Register as a Convicted Sex Offender,  and  Residing In a Communtiy Safety Zone by a Convicted Sex Offender,  are both class 6 felonies punishable by 2 years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and /or a fine of $4,000.    

 

The South Dakota Department of Corrections assisted with the investigaiton.  This is an ongoing investigation.
