ABC/Heidi GutmanThe title of Florida Georgia Line‘s new album is Dig Your Roots, and they celebrated its release Monday night in New York City at a place where Americans come to explore their own roots: Ellis Island, the gateway for some 12 million immigrants to the U.S. from 1852 to 1954.
Journalists were transported by ferry to the island where they were greeted by Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelly and glasses of the duo’s Old Camp Peach Pecan whiskey. The guests were then treated to the premiere of the video for “May We All,” featuring Tim McGraw.
In the clip, Tyler and B.K. are brothers who race cars. Tim plays a mechanic who lets B.K. drive his car because he has a broken arm. B.K. wins the race and Tim continues to let him drive. But at one race, B.K. flips Tyler’s car which catches fire. B.K. desperately tries to pull Tyler out, but as he’s dragged away, the car bursts into flames. B.K. breaks free, runs to the car and pulls Tyler from the wreckage. “Did I win?” Tyler asks. “Yeah, brother. We all did,” responds B.K.
At the event, the guys also received a plaque marking the success of their single “H.O.L.Y.,” which has spent 16 weeks at #1.
“This is just completely humbling,” B.K. told the crowd. He called making Dig Your Roots the “most challenging of times, the most exciting of times and the most creative of times,” adding, “We grew a lot throughout the process.”
Noting how hard it is to show all the facets of their personalities on one record, B.K. said, “We both really feel like we’re just getting started letting y’all in.”
