Why Kelsea Ballerini Was "Freaking Out" Before the ACM Honors

Timothy Kuratek/CBS ©2016 CBS Broadcasting Inc.Kelsea Ballerini may be on the verge of having her third number one in a row with “Peter Pan,” but the emerging superstar still maintains her ability to be starstruck.

“It’s freaking me out that she even knows who I am!” she said of Crystal Gayle, as she prepared to pay tribute to the pop-country icon last week at Nashville’s Ryman auditorium. “I’m singing her big crossover hit ‘Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,’ and she’s just such a legend and such a strong, beautiful, iconic female in this format, so it’s really cool to be able to honor her.”

You can check out Kelsea’s take on the chart-topping country hit from 1977 tonight on the 10th Annual ACM Honors at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” made it to #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 that year as well.
