ABC RadioAs Little Big Town announced their upcoming residency at the historic Ryman Auditorium Tuesday morning in Nashville, the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year also let go of another big secret they’ve been hanging on to, ever since the release of their new single, “Better Man,” a couple weeks ago.
“We told you that there was a young girl in Nashville that wrote it by herself, and it’s Taylor Swift!” Karen Fairchild revealed. “She sent us this song, and it was one that was really special to her, and she thought of us because of the harmonies, and she’s never pitched a song to anyone before. And the moment that we heard it, we were like, ‘Man, that is the song that we’re gonna cut!’”
Phillip Sweet agrees there was no doubt Taylor’s composition should be the lead single from their forthcoming album, The Breaker.
“Immediately we all had the same reaction. We’ve always, through our whole career, anytime we’ve had that reaction to a song, we knew it felt right. So this one just felt special, and we’ve known Taylor since she was in high school!” Phillip said, as his band mate Jimi Westbrook laughed. “She’s a dear friend of ours.”
The band promises plenty of special guests as they kick off their six-night Little Big Town at the Mother Church residency on February 24, the same day their new album is released. There’s no word so far on whether Taylor could be one of those.
