"The Whole World's Lost Their Mind": Eric Church Says There's Never Been a Better Time to "Kill a Word"

ABC/Image Group LAWith his lyrics that dream of taking negatives and turning them into positives, Eric Church believes he’s rarely had a more timely song than the one he performed on last week’s CMA Awards, “Kill a Word.”

“Unfortunately, it’s relevant. I wish it wasn’t,” he confesses. “And I think in the world that we live in, the whole world’s lost their mind. I performed a lot on awards shows, I’ve played a lot of songs. But I don’t know that I’ve ever had a performance that felt more important and timely than this one. Unfortunately, that’s true.”

One of the key ingredients in the song is Eric’s fellow North Carolinian, the lead singer of the Carolina Chocolate DropsRhiannon Giddens.

“With Rhiannon, I was a big fan of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, first of all. And for her to be able to stand up there and be able to put emotion on it is the big thing. She feels it. It’s coming from here and not here…” he says, pointing to his heart and his head. “I was honored to share the stage with her.”

You’ll find Eric’s latest top-20 hit on his CMA Album of the Year, Mr. Misunderstood.
