ABC/Image Group LA This week, Old Dominion notches their second number-one with “Song for Another Time,” but as it turns out, it could’ve very easily been Kenny Chesney sitting at the top of the charts with the same tune.
Collectively, the five members of the band have already written seven number-ones for other artists, including Kenny. Thinking they’d already finished their debut album, they originally pitched “Song for Another Time” to the East Tennessee superstar. But luckily, he turned it down.
“It was one of the first times I can remember an artist telling us we needed to save a song for ourselves, so thanks, Kenny!” the band’s Trevor Rosen jokes.
“It definitely added something that we felt was missing on our album, and so to have it hit #1 feels really good,” he adds. “We trusted our instincts and as it turns out, they were right.”
Old Dominion is already back in the studio working on their follow-up to Meat and Candy. Expect to hear new music from the band early next year.
