ABC/Mark LevineIn Nashville, Vince Gill and Amy Grant’s December shows have become a long-standing holiday tradition. Even though a ticket to see the two at the Mother Church of Country Music can be hard to come by, you can sample one of their yuletide collaborations on Amy’s new Tennessee Christmas album.
“We have sung that song for years at our Ryman shows…” she says of the pair’s duet on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” “We slowed it down for the record, just so people could enjoy the… clever lyric, and it goes by so quickly.”
While Amy is certainly a pop and Christian superstar in her own right, she gives all the praise for their latest recording to the Country Music Hall of Famer who also happens to be her husband.
“I mean Vince…. I have so much respect for him, and I love that I am the straight man to his, just vocal — I don’t even know what to call it,” Amy says proudly. “You know, he can just sing anything, and I love all of the dynamic bells and whistles that he added to that song.”
“Just the scratch vocal had the musicians going ‘How did he phrase it like that?’” Amy adds, recalling the sessions that took place in their home studio. “You know, he’s really the wow factor on that song. I’m just singing it straight and he’s doing the wow factor all around.”
Amy and Vince do their final three holiday shows at the Ryman Auditorium this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
