ABC/Image Group LA Thomas Rhett recently enjoyed the fourth #1 from his sophomore album with “Star of the Show.” Given that the platinum-selling Tangled Up was released back in September of 2015, there’s reason to wonder if TR’s next single might be new music from his upcoming record.
The “Die a Happy Man” hitmaker has recently been hard at work in the studio with producer Dann Huff.
“You know, when I was recording the last album, I loved about 80% of it, and I liked the rest. And I never wanted to be in that state again,” Thomas says of his approach to the new material. “So before the second record even got released, I did nothing but write on the road. And so this time around, I’ve had more songs than I could even record.”
Even so, Thomas says he’ll forego one of his own compositions for a better song.
“There’s songs that I get sent, that I’m like, ‘That just beats everything I have in that category,’” he admits. “So I’m always a sucker for the best song.”
“But you know, not everybody can say what I want to say,” TR adds. “So if I’m writing a song about something personal, I definitely want to be involved in writing that song. But on this record I wrote probably 90%, so it was a really good year of writing,” he reflects.
Thomas Rhett goes on to describe album number three in a nutshell.
“This one is all over the place just like the last one,” he says, “and [a] very, very throwback record, in all aspects of the name. I’m so excited to get new music out to the fans.”
