ABC/Image Group LA Darius Rucker has officially passed the $1 million mark when it comes to the money he’s raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Monday’s 8th annual Darius & Friends benefit at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium brought in a record $402,000 for the Memphis institution that works to cure childhood cancer. That brings the event’s all-time total to $1.2 million.
As planned, Darius’ pals and former openers Dan + Shay and Michael Ray dropped by, but there were plenty of surprises as well. Brooks & Dunn showed up to do “Red Dirt Road” with the Darius, delivering “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” too.
Darius sang Daryl Hall’s part on “Sara Smile” with Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer John Oates, and joined Michael Ray for a take on Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever Amen” as well. Newcomer Luke Combs treated the sold-out audience of 2400 to his two-week #1, “Hurricane.”
Come Sunday, Darius moves to Nissan Stadium, where he’ll play his set on the main stage at CMA Music Festival 2017.
