Park and Rec board to consider water slide proposal

It looks like a water slide is back in the plans for the new $8.1-million dollar indoor aquatic center. Park and Recreation Director Nathan Powell says the park and rec board has a special meeting scheduled on Wednesday to discuss a beverage contract with Pepsi.

“We put out an RFP (request for proposal) to be the exclusive beverage provider for the Parks and Recreation Department to help us fund the new slide at the new indoor aquatic center,” Powell said. “Pepsi did put a full proposal out…we’re going to take that to the board on Wednesday.”

He says if the board approves the plan, it’s scheduled to go before the city council at a special meeting scheduled for next Monday.

Powell says the contract should cover the $202,000 cost of the waterslide which was originally eliminated due to budget concerns. He says it’s less expensive to install the slide during the original construction than later.

The Park and Rec board meeting is set for noon Wednesday at the Rec Center conference room.
