On Sunday July 23, 2017 at approx. 6:51 p.m. The Mitchell Department of Public Safety received a report of an armed robbery that occurred at Auto Zone located at 422 E. Havens Avenue in Mitchell, S.D. At approx. 6:36 p.m. a male subject entered the business. The man then pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded money. The suspect was in the store for approx. 15 minutes before leaving the front door, leaving in an unknown direction with less than $800 cash that was inside a gray Auto Zone bag.
The suspect was described as a white male approx. approx. 20 to early 30 years old, 5’8 to 5’10 in height, 200-220 pounds with short blonde shaved or balding hair and “5 o’clock” beard stubble and wearing a white or gray T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. The suspect had a tattoo of a cloud and bird scene with “V” shaped birds and “Flat” clouds that was located under the suspect’s right ear. The suspect had unknown tattoos on his upper right arm and possibly on his forearm and tricep area. The suspect was armed with what appears to be a black semi-automatic handgun. Nobody was injured during this incident.
The suspect had apparently entered the store earlier on 7-23-2017 at approx. 4:30 p.m., prior to the robbery.
