ABC/Image Group LA Billy Currington celebrates the twelfth #1 of his career this week, as “Do I Make You Wanna” tops the Billboard country chart.
When it comes to racking up a dozen chart-topping hits, Billy says it’s crucial to have some great help. In fact, the same man who brought him his first #1, 2005’s “Must Be Doin’ Something Right,” also found his latest smash. That man is Mercury Nashville’s Brian Wright, who also delivered another #1 with “Let Me Down Easy” in 2010.
“I think we have the same connection to those type of songs,” Billy says. “So when he hears ’em, he’ll just send ’em my way, and that was one. I feel like it’s in that same vein, so it was as simple as that.”
Just as he did with his most recent chart-topper, “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To,” Billy went with his instincts and added “Do I Make You Wanna” to his Summer Forever album relatively late in the game.
“It was another kinda gut-feeling type song,” Billy recalls. “I didn’t live with it for months and months like I normally do. This one hit me, and it just fit right in a slot I was looking for a song like that.”
“I suspect that’ll be our last single from this album,” he adds, turning his attention to his forthcoming seventh studio record.
