C Flanigan/WireImageCarrie Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher, is leaving hockey on a high note. After making it to the final game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he’s retiring from the NHL.
The now-former Nashville Predators’ captain made the announcement Thursday morning in a special article for The Tennessean, titled “Predators’ Mike Fisher: Thanks, Nashville.”
After expressing his gratitude for Music City’s overwhelming support during the Preds’ run for the title — which they ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins — the Ontario native broke the news.
“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I know I’ve made the right one,” Fisher said. “I’ve decided to retire from the NHL.”
While the 37-year-old didn’t reveal exactly what he plans to do now that he’s stepping off the ice, he did say he’s planning on enjoying more time with Carrie and their 2-year-old son, Isaiah.
“Things change when you have kids and you have a family,” he observed. “They’ve supported me without question, and now it’s my turn to return the favor.”
Fisher played 17 seasons in the NHL, joining the Preds in 2011, after he and Carrie tied the knot the previous year.
