Donna Bucher appointed 1st Circuit Magistrate Judge

Presiding Judge Steven Jensen is pleased to announce that Attorney Donna Bucher from Mitchell has been appointed as a Magistrate Judge of the 1st Judicial Circuit, filling the seat open due to the appointment of Judge Gordon Swanson as Circuit Judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit.

Donna Bucher grew up in Milbank, SD and went to high school at Milbank High School. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Augustana College, now Augustana University, in Sioux Falls, SD, she went to Law School at Creighton University in Omaha NE. After graduating in 1984 she spent two years as an Assistant Public Defender for Minnehaha County, and then moved to Mitchell where she was a part time Deputy State’s Attorney for two years. She then joined the law firm of Tinan, Smith & Bucher in 1991 where she has practiced until this time. Bucher and her husband Steven have 2 children; Bert Steven attends the USD School of Law, and Ellen Linea is attending the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, working towards a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training. Bucher has been active in her church and has served on non-profit boards in the past.  

Attorney Bucher will assume her responsibilities as a magistrate judge in early September.
