ABC/Brett OronzioIf Brothers Osborne’s latest hit “It Ain’t My Fault” reminds you of arena anthems like Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places,” it’s partially by design.
“At the end of the day, John and I, we love playing big shows,” TJ Osborne tells ABC Radio. “We like playing in arenas and like playing those bigger venues. And we wanted songs that would work well in that setting.”
But TJ confesses that figuring out exactly how to deliver those types of tunes proved to be a more difficult task.
“We’re like, ‘Man, how do we get kind of an arena-feeling type of song, but still make it a song that’s clever?’” he asks.
The CMA and ACM Duo of the Year found the answer with “It Ain’t My Fault,” and the way they approached it in the studio.
“It feels like you’re there listening to it…the way that we tracked it,” John Osborne says. “I feel like every time I come across that track on the record, I feel like I’m actually in the studio or I’m at a bar or I’m at an arena. Like, I feel like it’s a live performance. Really, the way that we recorded it has really given you that live, spur-of-the-moment feel.”
“It Ain’t My Fault” is on the verge of becoming the siblings’ second top-10 hit, following the chart-topping success of “Stay a Little Longer.”
TJ and John are already busy recording the follow-up to their debut album, Pawn Shop.
