When Willa met Ada: Thomas Rhett relives the moment, as his “Life Changes”

Valory Music Co. Life Changes is a whole lot more than just an album title for Thomas Rhett.

He and wife Lauren adopted their first daughter, Willa, from a Ugandan orphanage back in May. Earlier this month, they also welcomed their first biological child, a little girl they named Ada.

As you might imagine, the first time the nearly-two-year-old Willa met the newborn Ada is a moment TR will never forget.

“It was, I guess, the next day, after we’d had Ada, Willa came to the hospital and started putting her hands, like, all over Ada. And it was a bunch of ‘Be gentle, be gentle, be gentle,’” he explains.

“But now… it’s amazing, because Willa… asks to hold Ada. And so, she’ll just sit there on the couch, and … and rock her. It’s pretty amazing. I think they’re so close in age they’re gonna be really close as they get older.”

With all the Life Changes going on in his household, Thomas Rhett admits Willa isn’t the only one who’s had to do a little adjusting.

“It’s pretty insane,” he says, considering how much has happened this summer. “With all the emotions of adopting a child, and wondering when the process is gonna be over, and then finally getting her home. And then literally, less than four months later, bringing a newborn into the world, it was just kind of somewhat of an emotional roller coaster. But it’s pretty amazing.”

TR’s third studio album comes out September 8, and features his new single, “Unforgettable.”
