Why Brothers Osborne put on their “best Taylor Swift face” to announce this year's CMA noms

ABC/Lorenzo BevilaquaReigning CMA Vocal Duo of the Year Brothers Osborne will defend their title at this year’s CMA Awards in November.

As they announced the 2017 nominations with Dustin Lynch and Lauren Alaina Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America, the siblings also picked up another nod:  a shot at Video of the Year for their current single, “It Ain’t My Fault.”

“There’s so many artists that have videos out, so many popular, well-respected and acclaimed artists that do as well,” TJ tells ABC Radio. “I was kind of like, ‘Alright, a long shot. I hope this one happens.’ I was — at least I’ll speak for myself and say I was very surprised.”

“Yeah, I was very surprised too,” John agrees. “We always try to push the bullet out with our videos and try to make a really cool statement, and do that thing our own way. And even the first draft of it, we were like, ‘Ah, man. This is something really special’… Like, we’re actually fans of this video, and for it to get the nomination is huge.”

While another nod for Duo wasn’t a guarantee, TJ admits it would’ve felt pretty odd to omitted.

“You know, we didn’t want to take it for granted that we would be nominated for the duo category, but considering we had won it last year, we kind of hoped that that would be the case,” he says. “So that would have been really awkward had we not been nominated for that category on live television!”

“But it was cool,” he adds. “We definitely put on our best Taylor Swift face and we enjoyed it.”

We’ll find out if Brothers Osborne can add to their trophy collection on November 8, when the 51st CMA Awards air live from Nashville on ABC.
