Thomas Rhett is ready for a “ton of comments” on The Chainsmokers-inspired track on “Life Changes”

Valory Music Co. Thomas Rhett admits he’s dealing with a few nerves, as he gets ready for the release of his third studio album, Life Changes, on Friday. On the other hand, he calls it “the best representation of me today.”

“This record was not made out of any sort of fear,” the “Unforgettable” singer explains. “It was made out of excitement and just sheer… ‘I cannot wait to record… because I’m so passionate about these songs.’ And so, in that aspect, it does take a little bit of the pressure away.”

The ACM Male Vocalist of the Year is also prepared to take some heat over a progressive track that was inspired by dance music duo The Chainsmokers.

“Anytime you go to a country music concert, everyone is more than likely playing hip-hop or EDM as their pre-roll,” TR says. “And I just got tired of my intro being way cooler than my show. So why not make one of mine that can be my intro that’s as cool as my show…?”

That’s how “Leave Right Now” came to be.

“It started out just three dudes on an acoustic guitar and I was writing this song with a bunch of guys from L.A.,” he recalls. “…Never in a million years did I think it was ever gonna make the record. And the more I just started listening to it, I was like, ‘Why would I not want a song of mine that makes me feel incredible to… be on the record?’”

Life Changes includes Thomas’s most recent #1 one, the CMA-nominated “Craving You” with Maren Morris.

On top of a busy release weekend, TR also is set to judge the Miss America competition on ABC. It starts Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
