Average Joes EntertainmentYou can now stream or download “Better Me,” the song that premiered Thursday at the end of Troy Gentry’s funeral at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House.
The tune is one of the final batch of songs that Troy recorded with his Montgomery Gentry bandmate, Eddie Montgomery, and was to be included on the new album the two were working on for Average Joes Entertainment.
In the song’s lyrics, Troy looks back on the pair’s hard-partying reputation, admitting the fun has given way to somewhat calmer times. “I’ve turned the page on wilder days, I’m writing all this down hoping you see,” he sings, “I ain’t sayin’ I’m perfect, but I’m workin’ on a better me.”
The 50-year-old singer lost his life in a helicopter crash in New Jersey on Friday, September 8.
At the conclusion of Thursday’s service, plans were revealed to release Troy and Eddie’s last recordings together over the next few months. You can also listen to “Better Me” via an audio-only YouTube clip.
