“What Ifs”: Kane Brown gives Lauren Alaina the credit for his first top-five hit

RCA Nashville/Zone 4Kane Brown has the first top five hit of his career with “What Ifs,” a duet with Lauren Alaina, and he gives her a lot of the credit for the song’s success.

Even though Kane is a relative newcomer and Lauren’s been around since she came in second on American Idol in 2011, they go way back: they first met in school in the Rossville, Georgia area.

Kane says that makes his first big hit even more special.

“It’s cool, you know,” he recalls. “In choir, I was really quiet, so she’s the one that kinda got me to sing and get out of my shell. So it’s cool that she accepted to sing on [‘What Ifs’], and I feel like she’s a big part of why it’s doing so good right now.”

Earlier this year, Lauren celebrated the first #1 of her career with “Road Less Traveled.” Her follow-up single, “Doin’ Fine,” is now climbing the chart.

The deluxe edition of Kane’s self-titled debut album, which adds four new songs, comes out October 6.
