ABC/Randy HolmesBroadcast Music Incorporated will honor Keith Urban with its Champion Award Tuesday, November 7 at the 65th annual BMI Country Awards in Nashville. The performing rights organization is honoring the “Fighter” hitmaker for his work in helping the next generation of singers, songwriters and musicians, and his efforts to further music education.
So far, the Aussie superstar has helped raised $2.6 million for the Country Music Hall and Museum through the All for the Hall concerts. Sales of his URBAN Guitar Collection have also brought in money for both the Grammy Foundation and the Mr. Holland’s Opus Fund.
Songwriter Bob DiPiero will be awarded BMI Icon status that night as well. DiPiero is known for writing smashes like “The Church on Cumberland Road” for Shenandoah and “Daddy’s Money” for Richochet, as well as Montgomery Gentry’s “Gone” and George Strait’s “Blue Clear Sky.”
