Luke and Blake definitely talked before Bryan signed on for Idol — but what they said is anyone’s guess

Capitol NashvilleShortly after it was announced that Luke Bryan would be part of the new judges’ panel on ABC’s relaunch of American IdolBlake Shelton indicated that the two had discussed the possibility before Luke made his final decision.

At the opening of his new bar and restaurant, Ole Red Tishomingo, Blake seemed to indicate to Entertainment Tonight that he and Luke had talked about money. The host of NBC’s rival The Voice even joked that ABC was probably mad at him because of what they’re having to pay Luke.

Following his first appearance with fellow judges Lionel Richie and Katy Perry on ABC’s Good Morning America, Luke confirmed that he and his pal had conferred, but it sounds like Blake’s advice was full of his trademark tomfoolery.

“I got insults, I got berated, I got my pride hurt,” Luke told ABC Radio. “So I guess that was Blake’s way of getting me ready for TV and this naughty little world,” he laughed.

Luke’s busy week continues on Friday when he’ll return to GMA for an appearance he teased on social media with a clip of a new song called “What Makes You Country.”

The four-time Entertainer of the Year also released the new cellphone-inspired lyric video for his top-15 hit, “Light It Up.” You can check it out on YouTube now.
