Look What You Made Me Do: Taylor Swift comes back to country

BMLG/Mert & MarcusIt looks like the next step in building Taylor Swift’s Reputation may be a return to the format that first made her a star.

On Thursday, Big Machine, Taylor’s record label, released the ballad “New Year’s Day” to country radio, as her new album, Reputation, continues to sell big numbers. It had already moved more than a million copies by Wednesday, following its release the Friday before. The cuts “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready for It?” have already become huge pop hits.

Earlier this week, Taylor was back in Nashville, visiting with fans at a Target location in Music City.

It’s possible the timing has never been better for a country comeback for Taylor: just last week, the Country Music Association gave her its Song of the Year trophy for writing “Better Man” for Little Big Town.

You can check out Taylor’s recent performance of “New Year’s Day” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on YouTube.
