ABC/Image Group LA Brett Young will soon be a married man. The California native proposed to longtime girlfriend Taylor Mills earlier this month in Oxford, Mississippi, where he went to college.
The “In Case You Didn’t Know” hitmaker popped the question at the Graduate hotel near Ole Miss, with a ring he helped design that includes both of the couple’s initials.
“We met a little over 10 years ago in Scottsdale while she was at [Arizona State University] and dated for a little over six years,” Brett tells People. “After school, she and I both moved to Los Angeles together. When I moved to Nashville, we took a break for a few years, and I wrote a lot of my first record about her.”
“There was never any bad blood,” he explains. “It was just the wrong time for us. We recently got back in touch and realized that we were both finally in the same place and knew it was right.”
While we don’t know exactly when Brett and Taylor are planning to tie the knot, Brett says he expects their ceremony will be in Arizona.
Brett’s currently working on his sophomore album, as his new single, “Mercy,” climbs the chart.
