Paul Drinkwater/NBC“The Champion” is proving to be the Carrie Underwood song that just keeps on going. While the American Idol winner is busy working on her next album, she’s just released a new music video for the anthem, which pairs her with rapper Ludacris.
The new treatment mixes footage of Carrie and Ludacris in the studio with scenes of both professional athletes and everyday heroes. “The Champion” was originally conceived as the opening theme for Super Bowl LII and then went on to be used in NBC’s coverage of the Olympics.
So far, it’s hit #1 on the iTunes charts in ten countries, including the U.S.
Carrie’s currently in the running for both Female Vocalist and Vocal Event of the Year for “The Fighter” with Keith Urban at the 53rd ACM Awards. We’ll find out if she wins April 15, when the trophies are handed out in Las Vegas.
