ABC/Image Group LA Brett Eldredge may be taking “The Long Way” with his latest hit, but his ultimate destination may very well be the top of the country chart. One of the stops along the journey was to create a romantic video that matches the feel of the song.
“This is such a personal and intimate lyric of getting to know somebody on a deeper level,” Brett explains. “You know, I’ve had videos where I’m in a straight jacket. I’ve had videos when I’m playing multiple, different characters and all that.”
For “The Long Way,” Brett knew he needed a more direct approach.
“I wanted it to be very poignant, straight to the point of what the song was, and that’s what we did with this video,” he says. But perhaps the most important decision was finding the right leading lady.
“In my Instagram feed, I’d seen videos of Sadie Robertson…” he says of the Duck Dynasty star. “It was just like, ‘I just love her personality. She seems like a great person.’ She’s everything that this song captures in the lyrics.”
“You know it’s like, ‘We’ve got to find a girl like Sadie,'” Brett recalls. “And somebody was like, ‘Why don’t we just ask Sadie?'”
“She’s a big country fan,” he continues. “She loved the song and jumped on board, and it was just a really fun experience. And she’s a great person, and it just really came across. You could tell we were really enjoying the experience. It was awesome.”
Tonight, Brett plays Bossier City, Louisiana, as he continues on the Country Music Freaks Tour with Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins and Carly Pearce.
