Drew Angerer/Getty ImagesStarting this week, the families of 58 people who lost their lives last year after a man opened fire at a country festival in Las Vegas will receive compensation from the Las Vegas Victims Fund.
The campaign, which started as a Go Fund Me page following the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival on October 1, will provide $275,000 to each family of the deceased.
According to a statement, more than $31.4 million was raised by over 90,000 donors locally, nationally and internationally. As a result, those injured and the victims’ families from the shooting will receive a varied monetary sum.
Victims who are suffering from permanent paralysis or permanent brain damage will also receive $275,000 each, while those who were hospitalized following the attack in Las Vegas will be given a varied amount, depending on their hospital stay and the severity of their injuries.
“The love and support shown for the families and survivors of the 1 October tragedy was tremendous,” said Scott Nielson, chairman of the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund Committee, in a statement.
“We recognize, however, that money cannot replace a life lost or forever changed due to this tragic event. What the Committee worked hard to do was distribute the gifts given by tens of thousands of people in a way that would help those families and survivors most severely impacted by 1 October.”
