ABC/Eric LiebowitzIf you need a reminder that the American dream is still alive and well, Luke Bryan says all you need to do is watch the new season of American Idol.
“It’s so inspiring to watch [it] unfold,” he tells ABC Radio, “and the emotions that go around, the struggle to get here.”
The “Most People are Good” singer also believes the new incarnation of Idol represents a good cross-section of the American people.
“Some of these contestants have been homeless before,” he explains. “You know, they’ve dealt with loss and tragedy, and some of them are young. And they’re too young to even be in this spot, but they’re so talented. It’s just such a great microcosm of what America is these days. There’s a lot of diversity in the contestants.”
From the highs to the lows, Luke warns the new season will pull at your heartstrings.
“It makes you feel all the emotions in one show,” the Georgia native says. “You know, you’re rooting for people. You get to pick people, and you get to try to root them all the way to the top.”
And if Luke and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Katy Perry don’t get it quite right? Well, the four-time Entertainer of the Year has even found the silver lining in that.
“As a judge, you know, we’re gonna make some mistakes here,” Luke points out. “And some of these contestants we’re gonna send home, and they’re gonna come back years later and they’re gonna be mega-stars. And they’re gonna be like, ‘You sent me home!’ And I’m like, ‘Hey, thanks for proving me wrong.'”
