ABC/Randy HolmesIt’s been a whirlwind year for “Hurricane” hitmaker Luke Combs. The North Carolina native has two number ones to his credit, and with the opening of the new American Currents: The Music of 2017exhibit, he’s now been immortalized at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
That’s an impressive feat, especially for someone who already has some considerable history with the Hall.
“The first time I ever came to Nashville about 7 or 8 years ago, this was the first place that I came,” he reveals. “And I’ve been here probably ten or fifteen times since then. It’s really hard to believe that I’ve got something in there, you know, especially with Eric Church. It’s crazy.”
“It’s pretty wild,” Luke adds. “I stepped off the elevator up there and haven’t stopped smiling since, I don’t think.”
Luke’s contribution to American Currents includes the wardrobe from the video for his first number one, as well as a special edition of his debut album, This One’s for You.
“I got one of my crusty old [Performance Fishing Gear shirts] in there that I wore for the ‘Hurricane’ video,” he explains. “I got the hat I wore, and then the original pressing of my record on vinyl, the first press is in there. So… it’s really cool to see.”
When he returns from his dates in the United Kingdom and Australia, Luke’s looking forward to bringing his nearest and dearest to the Hall.
“My dad’s retiring April 1. I’m very excited about that, so I’m gonna get him out here and see that. He’s gonna come ride the bus with me for a few weeks when we get back from across the pond there. So, it should be fun.”
