ABC/Image Group LA If you follow Dustin Lynch on social media, you’ve probably noticed the “I’d Be Jealous Too” hitmaker has started a new video series that lets fans in on his everyday life.
Some folks were surprised to see one recent — and very raw — post, where Dustin watches the reveal of this year’s ACM nominations, only to find out his huge hit, “Small Town Boy,” wasn’t nominated. But the Tullahoma, Tennessee native has no regrets about it.
“You know, this new chapter…it’s all about the real stuff. And that’s real, you know?” Dustin says. “So there’s gonna be more of those moments, where it’s probably stuff…I would never think to publicize. But it’s real emotion.”
“And you know, those awards are something that we work so hard at,” he explains, “not only myself but every other artist. I’m just the first guy to put it out there. I promise you, I wasn’t the only one watching that broadcast that felt like crap after it happened, you know?”
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Dustin continues. “We did everything we could. And I’m gonna continue to try to get nominated and stuff, but the feeling is: This sucks, y’know? And it does.”
Dustin says he’s heard from many of his contemporaries who felt the same way, and gave him props for being so transparent.
“My phone blew up. It was crazy. I was getting texts from all sorts of artists, like ‘Man, good on you for actually putting the real stuff out there. I feel the same way. And it’s great that you’re putting it out there for the world to see.’ So that was very encouraging.”
Meanwhile, “Small Town Boy” has passed the platinum mark, and Dustin recently celebrated the four-week #1 with a party in downtown Nashville.
