ABC/Image Group LAMorgan Evans has his first top-25 hit with “Kiss Somebody,” as he simultaneously has another song climbing the country chart. The native Australian also wrote Dylan Scott’s single, “Hooked.”
Without his wife Kelsea Ballerini, Morgan says “Hooked” might never have come to be.
“So that’s kind of a funny story…” he explains. “I actually walked into the writing room one day, and I wrote with Seth Ennis and a producer from Australia named Lindsay Rimes… and it was just after Kelsea and I started dating.”
“She’d just posted about it,” Morgan continues. “She had ‘Peter Pan’ out at the time, and I walked into the room, and they were like, ‘Alright, so Kelsea’s got “Peter Pan,” and we should write one for you called “Hook”!’”
“That is a terrible idea,” he laughs. “But then we started playing guitar for a little bit, and we were like, ‘What about “Hooked”?’ And we wrote that song, and we were pretty stoked with it.”
Once Dylan heard it, he and his wife Blair were instantly sold.
“I just loved it immediately,” Dylan recalls. “My wife, we were listening to it in the car, and she turned the volume up, she rolled her window down. She was dancing, she was loving it, and by the time the song ended, I had my window down and I was loving it too.”
“Hooked” is the follow-up to Dylan’s first #1, “My Girl,” which he wrote about Blair.
