Chris Stapleton, Dierks, Brothers Osborne, Willie, Dolly and more “Revamp” and “Restor[e]” the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin

Island Records/Universal Music Group NashvilleThe biggest names in country and pop are putting a new twist on the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, with two new records, Revamp and Restoration, set to be released April 6.

“We have two completely different albums,” Elton says. “Revamp being the pop one and Restoration being the country one and God, we have so many great artists doing our songs, it’s quite incredible.”

Restoration was Bernie’s project and he’s a huge country fan…” Elton continues. “He came up with an astonishing list of country performers both new and legendary.”

Little Big Town sends “Rocket Man” into orbit, while Dierks Bentley reinterprets the ’80’s hit, “Sad Songs (Say So Much).” Vince Gill teams up with his Eagles’ bandmate Don Henley for “Sacrifice,” while Lee Ann Womack tackles “Honky Cat.”

Miley Cyrus is the only non-country artist on Restoration, doing “The Bitch Is Back.” Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, and Miranda Lambert contribute covers as well.

“Because of our love of all kinds of music, we’re not stuck in one genre.” Bernie explains. “From day one we borrowed from everything that’s good about American music — whether it’s blues, country, gospel, pop, pure rock — everything got thrown in the mix.”

Bernie also created the artwork for Restoration, which features vintage instruments juxtaposed against both the American and British flags.
