Sugarland’s new album will be “Bigger” — but they’re making no promises about the future

ABC/Heidi GutmanSugarland is “Still the Same,” just like their single says — just maybe Bigger. In a tweet early Friday morning, the duo revealed Bigger willl be the title of their new album that’s coming June 8.

“I think there’s something with Sugarland that is a higher calling,” Jennifer Nettles tells the Tennessean. “What we’ve been writing for this new record, it is clear we had things inside of us that we felt the world needed to hear. I think translating that pain into hope is something that Sugarland does really well.”

The CMA-winning duo’s more than five-year break came to an end in August, as Jennifer and Kristian Bush reconvened in New York City to see if they could conjure their old magic. By the end of the session, they’d come up with “Still the Same” and started “On a Roll.” Two weeks later, they’d laid down the beginning tracks for the new record. Only the song “Love Me Like I’m Leaving” was written prior to their break.

Your next chance to see Jennifer and Kristian is April 9 on American Idol, before they launch their tour in May ahead of Bigger’s June 8 arrival. Beyond that, Jennifer says Sugarland’s future is still up in the air.

“What we have done for our fans,” Jennifer says, “I hope, is show them they can trust there are times when we will come apart, and there are times when we will come back together. I love that we have done exactly what we said we were going to do. We took time and… we came back.”
