Nick WalkerIt wasn’t that long ago that Maren Morris scored her first solo #1 on the country chart, with “I Could Use a Love Song.” Now, the Texas native has a #1 on the pop chart to match, as “The Middle” ascends to the top on Billboard’s Pop Songs tally.
Maren’s collaboration with producer/DJ Zedd and electronic duo Grey puts her on a very exclusive list. Only six artists have managed to top both the country and pop Billboard airplay charts: Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, and Backstreet Boys.
Darius Rucker misses out on a technicality: his pop #1 was with Hootie & the Blowfish.
Maren’s first #1 single on the country charts came last year for adding her vocals to Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You.” Her debut album Hero also debuted at the top when it was released.
